Seen at Gamescom 2018: Rift Storm Legion

Rift is an MMORPG that's already several years old and that many of you certainly know very well. We decided to meet with the developers to find out what new features they've decided to offer. with the Storm Legion expansion.

Before we discuss it, we think it's fair to refresh your memory – or let you know what game it is if you're not familiar with it – so we can start with a brief recap. Rift invites you to venture into the fantasy world of Telara, divided into various areas, which you can explore in search of NPCs and quests. It should be noted that ongoing quests are also visible to other players and that, if you wish, you can join them to fight against bosses and mini-bosses. Your avatar belongs to an archetype (e.g., warrior or mage) and can obviously be customized regarding armor, weapons, etc. What is particularly interesting is that you will have to choose a role for your avatar, which, however, can be changed to better suit the needs of a group during a quest. You can indeed join other players to participate in events of varying sizes, trade items, or travel automatically, and then abandon them at any time. The latter option is particularly useful when time is short and you prefer to dedicate yourself to short games, thanks to instant adventures.

Let's get to the news that should interest you most: the new expansion first of all raises the Maximum level at 60 and offers you the opportunity to reach the Grandmaster level“. Obviously, for Prime subscribers, the gaming area has also been extended, and you can take advantage of it to discover two new continents, Dusken and Brevane. The additions also include a hub, Tempest Bay, and the presence of new dungeons and raids, fundamental for anyone who wishes to reach the highest level. The strongest players will also have the task of Tackle the colossus Volan. Finally, the developers have recently considered revamping the game's business model! Upon its release, Rift was actually sold in boxes, then switched to a free-to-play system a few years later. This choice unfortunately discouraged some of the audience, who then gave up playing. Trion has therefore decided to evolve its model again and today offers two different options: it is still possible to access content by playing for free or by subscribing to a monthly membership. Depending on the model you choose, you will have access to a specific server, and your character will be able to transfer between them if you decide to change your subscription type. The developers are thus trying to attract new players and those who have abandoned the world of Telara, allowing them to discover all the new features and content added over the game's 7-year lifespan, such as puzzles, custom locations, and other activities!
Storm Legion will be available in the fall!
