PlayStation 5 Pro: PSSR Technology Update Coming Soon

Mark Cerny, Lead Architect for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, has announced the release of an updated version of PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution). This new iteration of the AI-powered upscaling technology will be made available globally to all PS5 Pro owners in the coming weeks via a system software update.

The new algorithm and updated neural network are the result of the "Project Amethyst" collaboration with AMD, which already led to the development of FSR 4 technology on PC. This PS5 Pro-specific version includes an additional six months of optimization compared to the desktop counterpart. The system works by analyzing and reconstructing individual pixels to increase the effective resolution of supported titles, of which there are currently over 50.

Resident Evil Requiem, available for a few days now, is the first game to natively integrate this advanced version of the technology. Additional existing titles are planned for March. Once the next system firmware is installed, the “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” option can be enabled in the console settings to apply the new upscaling profile to all software that already supports PSSR.
