Star Fox surprisingly announced for Nintendo Switch 2

It's now clear that Nintendo is changing the way it communicates its Nintendo Switch 2 releases. While Nintendo Direct presentations dominated on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, with announcements grouped into one large presentation at regular intervals, now individual game presentations are being dropped as surprises (shadow drop presentations) without any prior announcements. This is the case with Star Fox, announced tonight between May 6th and 7th, 2026, in which Nintendo revealed the return of the Star Fox series to Nintendo Switch 2 (NSW2). It's not a simple port, but rather a practically ground-up remake of Star Fox 64, released in 1997 on the Nintendo 64, updated with modern graphics thanks to Nintendo's latest hardware.

Goodbye to the polygonal aesthetics of the past, welcome Revised character designs and advanced environments offer a modern, almost cinematic look, supported by fully voiced sequences (including Italian). It's no coincidence that the opening sequence of the trailer features the sequence from the latest film currently in theaters, Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie, where Star Fox McLoud makes his appearance. The soundtrack has also been reworked in an orchestral style to emphasize the cinematic nature of the operation. The remake takes full advantage of the Joy-Con 2 controllers, meaning it is compatible with mouse mode, allowing for assisted aiming thanks to motion sensors and for greater shooting precision. A local cooperative mode has also been introduced where the flight and aiming functions can be separated between two players, modifying the classic level dynamics. on-rails.

The title integrates the Switch 2's new communication API (GameChat). This feature uses the console's camera to map the player's expressions onto 3D avatars during online matches. Multiplayer has been expanded to support up to eight pilots in competitive arenas that include combined use of Arwings and Landmasters. Star Fox's launch is very close, meaning it's already June 25, 2026 at the price of CHF 49.90. Of course, the software will be available exclusively for NSW2.
