Samsung launches new 990 SSD with improved energy efficiency

Samsung Electronics today announced the global launch of the new 990 SSD, a PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe 2.0 solid-state drive (SSD) that will be available starting today in 1 TB and 2 TB capacities, with a recommended retail price of CHF 240 and CHF 470, respectively.

Compared to the previous 990 PRO model, this version reduces energy consumption, recording an increase in efficiency of up to 38%.

The 2TB model offers sequential read speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s, while the 1TB variant reaches 7,150 MB/s. Both versions share sequential write speeds of up to 6,450 MB/s. As for random performance, the 2TB version boasts 850,000 read IOPS and 1,200,000 write IOPS, while the 1TB model boasts 700,000 read IOPS and 1,100,000 write IOPS.

Software support is provided by the Samsung Magician application for drive health monitoring, data migration, and performance optimization. Security management includes AES 256-bit hardware encryption.
