Sony has announced the global rollout of a new system software update for the PlayStation Portal remote player, scheduled for March 18, 2026. The update introduces features aimed at improving visual fidelity and the user interface during gameplay.

The main new feature is the introduction of 1080p High Quality mode, available for both Remote Playback and Cloud Streaming. This setting allows you to use a higher bitrate than the standard mode. The feature can be activated via the Quick Menu under Maximum Resolution and requires a session restart to take effect.

The update also brings several optimizations to the user experience:
-
Bundle Management: A new interface on product detail pages allows you to select specific titles within game bundles.
-
Notifications and Invites: Game invites are now clearly displayed on-screen during streaming. The trophy notification system has been updated to include the name and image of the unlocked trophy, as well as a specific animation for platinums.
-
Search and onboarding: The on-screen keyboard appears immediately when you access the search function. Account creation has also been simplified by scanning a QR code on mobile devices.
According to data provided by the manufacturer, monthly cloud streaming users increased by 1621 TP3T year-over-year as of January 2026. More than 501 TP3T of PlayStation Portal owners are currently subscribed to PlayStation Plus Premium.
A broadband Wi-Fi connection of at least 5 Mbps is required for proper operation, although a speed of at least 15 Mbps is recommended for optimal performance. Streaming games requires an active PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.
