Ghost of Yōtei Legends: Details on Cooperative Multiplayer Mode

Sucker Punch Productions provided the technical specifications and content for Ghost of Yōtei Legends, the online cooperative mode coming March 10 as a free update for owners of Ghost of Yōtei on PS5. Development of the multiplayer component occurred in parallel with that of the main campaign, with a dedicated team adapting the game's systems to the online environment.

The mode transposes the adventures of the Yōtei Six into a supernatural dimension set years or centuries after the events of the main story. The original bosses are reimagined as large demonic entities, supported by thematic factions. Confirmed enemies include the Snow Woman for the Kitsune and a summoner for the Serpent. Four bosses will be available at launch: the Spider, the Oni, the Kitsune, and the Serpent.

The game features four distinct classes, each with a specific primary weapon and dedicated skill tree for creating custom builds:

  • Samurai: Uses the Odachi
  • Archer: Uses the Yari
  • Mercenary: Uses dual katanas
  • Shinobi: Uses the Kusarigama

Each class can still equip secondary weapons and cosmetic items that can only be unlocked by completing in-game activities. The progression system features four difficulty levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Experience level and reward quality increase proportionally to the selected difficulty. Mission types include:

  • Narrative missions: for two players, focused on telling the story of events.
  • Raids: Four-player missions that culminate boss stories.
  • Survival: Defend three areas against waves of enemies for four players. Includes blessing mechanics (such as summoning the spirit bear) and curses (such as hunting the shadow bear) tied to controlling areas.

A hardcore four-player Raid, requiring coordination and communication to take on the final two Six of Yōtei (Dragon and Lord Saito), is scheduled for release in April. The new 3D lobby allows players to manage their equipment and access minigames while they wait, including a competitive Zebu Hajiki coin toss, Bamboo Strike challenges with integrated leaderboards, and a training area for testing parries and class configurations.

The update will be available starting at 12:00 AM PDT on March 10.
