Forrester to the rescue

Sons of Winter, fourth of six episodes of this first season of Game of Thrones by Telltale. As in episode 3, here too we will continue to follow the events of Mira, Asher, Gared, and Rodrick grappling with significant challenges. Every storyline, which takes place virtually in parallel, It has its moments of tension and uncertainty. Asher is in Meereen and is brought before the Mother of Dragons, who entrusts him with a difficult mission: to deliver the city of the slavers to her. Mira is still grappling with court intrigue during King Tommen's coronation, and the question is whether she will be able to play the game of thrones or if she'll be discovered and made to disappear! Gared is still at the Wall, and after being forced to kill one of his brethren at the end of episode 3, he will have to deal with the consequences of his actions. Rodrik, finally, is slowly recovering from his wounds from the Red Wedding but is still under the dominion of the Whitehill heir.

Time to give it back!

Sons of Winter keep up the momentum finally caught by Sword in the Darkness to finally make great things happen. Each character will finally enter their “mature phase” and we will finally have the chance to see them make (as we, the architects) important decisions and risky moves. Extremely tense and important situations for some, especially for Rodrick, finally bring us joy, with the concrete possibility of changing things. The presence of the TV show characters is reduced to Daenerys and a brief appearance by John Snow, which allows for a deeper exploration of the motivations and hopes of our protagonists. Free from the shackles of the literary and television saga, Telltale has finally proven that even the Forresters are not defenseless.

From a purely technical standpoint, the version I tested (on Xbox One) it presents the exact same problems as the previous episodes. One of them, in particular, is the truly unstable framerate, which is a truly incomprehensible problem. How can hardware run The Witcher 3 without issues and have very noticeable freezes and stutters with Game of Thrones? Telltale absolutely must fix its engine to offer not only better performance but also more beautiful graphics. Nothing to say about the English voice acting, which is excellent as always, and the music, which is very beautiful (although there isn't a special song like in episode 2).

More than half

Game of Thrones: Sons of Winter which now brings us two-thirds of the way through the game, with the plot gears grinding at full speed. A very active and satisfying episode that leaves us with a cliffhanger. What will happen in the next episode? We are really stewing in our own broth of curiosity now. Essential for everyone who has made it to episode 3 and a good omen for those who haven't started the season yet: things are getting more and more interesting!
