Fritz!Box 5690 XGS-PON available in Switzerland with Wi-Fi 7 and 10 Gbit/s fiber optics

AVM has introduced the router to the Swiss market Fritz!Box 5690 Xgs-pon, a device designed for high-speed fiber optic connections. According to ComCom data, at the end of 2024, there were approximately 1.4 million active fiber optic connections in Switzerland, equivalent to 321 TP3T of the broadband market. The XGS-PON standard is used by providers to offer transmission speeds of up to 10 Gbit/s in both urban and rural areas.

The device integrates Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11be) technology, capable of reaching transfer speeds of up to 7.1 Gbps. This standard is designed to reduce latency and ensure connection stability in environments with numerous simultaneously connected devices. The router can be connected directly to the XGS-PON optical gateway or used in cascade via the dedicated WAN port.

In addition to networking features, the router includes a DECT base station for cordless telephony and home automation management. Through integration with specific gateways, the system supports Zigbee and Matter protocols for lighting and heating control. Security is managed via a built-in firewall, parental controls, and automatic firmware updates.

Technical specifications:

  • Direct XGS-PON connection or WAN up to 10 Gbit/s

  • Wi-Fi 7 with speeds up to 7.1 Gbit/s (backward support for Wi-Fi 6 and 5)

  • Wi-Fi Mesh Technology
