Home networking solutions manufacturer Fritz! has announced the founding of the Sovereignty Alliance for European Network Technology (SAFENet), together with devolo, Lancom, and Tdt. The coalition's goal is to reduce the continent's dependence on non-European network technology providers.

The initiative's promoters emphasize that routers handle more than 90% of Europe's internet traffic, making them critical elements of the digital infrastructure. SAFENet intends to reach out to European Union institutions and individual national governments to promote greater consideration of network devices in policy decisions, calling for greater transparency, targeted purchasing strategies, and the creation of a European Router and Network Technology Security Toolbox.
Fritz! CEO Jan Oetjen said that the security and technological independence of networks are essential to ensuring digital sovereignty and control over the technological future of European countries.
