4A Games announces Metro 2039, scheduled for release in winter 2026.

Developer 4A Games has officially unveiled Metro 2039, the new installment in the post-apocalyptic FPS series. The title will be available this winter for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC via the Steam and Epic Games stores.

The announcement was accompanied by a 15-minute presentation aired today, showcasing real-time footage and gameplay footage. The production focuses on a single-player campaign featuring elements of psychological horror and first-person shooter mechanics. The story's protagonist is the Stranger, a fully voiced character whom players will guide through the tunnels of the Moscow Metro.

The narrative is set twenty-five years after the nuclear conflict. The underground factions are now unified in Novoreich, an authoritarian regime led by Hunter, a former Spartan now serving as Führer. The plot, directly influenced by the development studio's experiences during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, explores the consequences of individual actions and the cost of ensuring society's future.

On a technical level, the presentation confirmed the return of iconic equipment from the series, including the wristwatch and custom weapons, necessary to face the fight against the mutants. The development of Metro 2039 is currently underway at 4A Games headquarters in Kiev and Malta.
