Sony unveils RX10 V bridge camera with AI-powered autofocus

Sony has announced the fifth generation of its bridge camera series, the model RX10 V. The device integrates a 1.0-inch Exmor RS CMOS image sensor with approximately 20.1 effective megapixels and a BIONZ XR image processing engine.

The built-in lens is a ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T with 25x optical zoom, covering a focal range equivalent to 24-600mm with an aperture between F2.4 and F4.0. The closest focusing distance is approximately 3 centimeters at the minimum focal length and 72 centimeters at the maximum focal length.

The technical department includes a dedicated AI processing unit for real-time subject recognition and tracking, capable of identifying people, animals, insects, and vehicles even from a distance, estimating human posture if faces are obscured or turned away. The camera performs up to 60 focus and exposure calculations per second, enabling continuous burst shooting with an electronic shutter at up to 30 frames per second with AF/AE tracking active. The mechanical shutter allows flash synchronization up to 1/2000 of a second.

As for video functions, the camera supports 4K recording up to 120p, with active image stabilization and an AI-powered auto-framing function. S-Cinetone and S-Log3 profiles are included, as well as the ability to import up to 16 user LUTs in .cube format. The top of the camera body features a Multi Interface Shoe for connecting digital audio accessories.

The ergonomics echo the design of the Alpha series of interchangeable-lens cameras, introducing an eight-way multifunction dial. The electronic viewfinder is a 0.5-inch Quad-VGA OLED panel with 3.68 million dots and approximately 0.78x magnification, while the 3.0-inch 3/2-format rear screen has a resolution of 1.62 million dots. The body is designed to be dust and moisture resistant.

Connectivity includes dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz) and a USB Type-C port that supports data transfer and 4K 30p live streaming. The device is compatible with the Creators' App for remote control and file transfer to smartphones or cloud services. Power is provided by the Z-series NP-FZ100 rechargeable battery, which guarantees a claimed battery life of approximately 630 shots using the LCD screen.

The model RX10 V is available for pre-order starting July 9, 2026 at a suggested retail price of CHF 2,100.
