<\/p>\nWe were invited to the Infinity Level booth at Gamescom 2022, for a special event dedicated to the Vertigo Games group, who delighted us with their lineup in development for this year. After explaining the three titles, the developers allowed us to try out each individual game with a hands-on demo, also explaining the new mechanics and features within the game. The titles shown were: After the Fall, Hellsweeper VR, and PathCraft.<\/p>\n

VR has seen significant developments in recent decades, especially after the acquisition of Oculus by the renowned entrepreneur Mark Zuckerberg. Following this event, various versions were released across multiple headset brands. This allowed developers worldwide to explore the development of different software and games of various kinds. Vertigo is one of these, specifically developing cross-platform VR games on behalf of the publisher PLAION.<\/p>\n
The first title of our hands-on session with Vertigo Games developers was the big title; Hellsweeper VR<\/strong>, a game with a gothic environment, undead enemies, and oriental architecture.<\/p>\n Once the headset is on, we start in a first tutorial level where we can test and learn to move. Two settings are possible: continuous movement, which is designed for those already familiar with VR, or the classic point-and-teleport for beginners like us, making the gaming experience more fun and immersive at the same time. We then start with the tutorial phase where we will use magic: Ice, Fire, and Thunder. VR breaks down barriers by allowing us to use both hands, consequently creating additional OP abilities that will help us in the more intense phases of the game. Obviously, in the final game, the character will have a mana bar that depletes with the use of magic. In our hands-on, however, we were in a \u201cgod mode,\u201d allowing us to experiment with all combinations and kill all enemies in the next phase with our preferred combos.<\/p>\n Hellsweeper remains a roguelike, in which we can use magic but also pick up surrounding objects to use in combat. The game's developer explains that we will play as an undead being whose goal is to bring some order to the underworld filled with less pure souls.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n We must also remember its predecessor, Sairento VR, which laid the important groundwork for the development of this new title. The peculiarity of the old title differs significantly from Hellsweeper's, as it was much more frenetic and full of parkour-style movement, while today the developers have focused on a more static concept, in which one must think quickly and combine their actions with the right timing.<\/p>\n As we are not very experienced in our hands-on, we were able to see how to combine the various magics to take down demons in the game, from fireballs to lightning and ice magic, which when combined create different combinations and overpowered spells for destroying enemies. The ultimate weapon is definitely when we combine lightning magic with a fireball and then combine it with ice magic; this will create a continuous beam that will sweep away all enemies that stand in its path.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n An immersive experience that will definitely give a hard time to those who, like me, haven't used VR in a while. At the same time, a rich and stimulating gameplay that will satisfy everyone who tries the title, turning us into true hardcore gamers over time, destroying all the demons in every level.
