Somewhat surprisingly, Google announced today that Nest Wifi is coming to Switzerland. This is the first expansion of the Nest device range after the official introduction of the Nest Hub and Nest Mini (of which we talked here<\/a>) last fall. Let's see what Google has to say about it, while we wait for our review.<\/p>\n

The Nest Wifi system consists of two devices. The Nest Wifi router connects directly to your modem and forms the foundation of your home network, providing fast, reliable connectivity throughout your home. The Nest Wifi Access Point extends your network's coverage so you can enjoy Wi-Fi wherever you need it. Nest Wifi is more powerful than its predecessor, Google Wifi, offering up to twice the speed and covering up to 251 ft\u00b2 more area. A Nest Wifi router and access point are enough to cover an area of up to 2,250 sq ft. The system is modular, so you can add more access points later (or purchase a router and access point bundle from the start) to cover your entire home. And if you already have a Google Wifi system, you can easily add a Nest Wifi device to your existing system to expand your network.<\/p>\n

Quick and easy setup in the Google Home app<\/strong><\/p>\n

It only takes a few minutes to set up Nest Wifi. Plug in your router, then download the Google Home app, which will help you complete the setup in a few simple steps. You can then manage your network from the app, which can also be used to control other compatible connected devices. With the Google Home app, you can easily share Wi-Fi passwords with guests, prioritize devices (for example, when making a video call), check your connection speed, create a guest network, or change your password. And if you have a Nest smart display, you can even generate a QR code for your guests to scan with their phones to connect quickly. You can also manage multiple homes in the Google Home app. As the family tech expert, you may also need to manage your parents' network. This way, if you receive a call because your internet is down, you can quickly find out where the problem lies\u2014and fix it.<\/p>\n

Special settings for children<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nest Wifi is also ideal for families. Let's say your kids need to unplug at certain times of the week to do homework. On weekends, they can go to bed a little later to play video games or stream their favorite shows. With Wi-Fi control in the Google Home app, you can easily set Wi-Fi on your kids' devices regularly or at any time. Additionally, on some devices, you can also block content suitable for adults only.<\/p>\n

The Nest Wi-Fi Access Point has a built-in speaker with Google Wizard. So it can do everything the Nest Mini can. So you get two devices in one. And since the built-in speaker is the same as the Nest Mini's, you can add it to a speaker group and play your favorite playlist throughout your home.<\/p>\n

Nest Wifi will be available in Switzerland from May 5, 2020. You can also extend your existing Google Wifi system with Nest Wifi. The bundled offer, including a Wi-Fi router and a Wi-Fi access point, is available for CHF 289.-, a simple Wi-Fi router for CHF 179.-, and a simple Wi-Fi access point for CHF 159.- exclusively in the Google Store. Sales will begin simultaneously in ten European countries: Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, and the Netherlands.<\/p>\n
