Razer has a good habit of presenting its new products to the press well before they're allowed to talk about them. Months in fact! In fact, we've been saving this article since Gamescom because we've only been able to talk about the Nari Ultimate since yesterday evening. But we didn't just see the new headset at the Razer booth; we saw so much more!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Razer, a brand we know well for its Joypads, presented three new products at Gamescom 2019 in the peripherals market, which has always been a focus of the Taiwanese brand. The first is the Viper, a mouse developed with the talents of Team Razer and other esports teams. The second is the Huntsman Tournament Edition, a tenkeyless keyboard featuring the highly interesting Razer switches. The third new product is an Xbox-inspired reimagining of the Nari, the haptic-based headset we've seen in the past. Let's take a look at each device individually.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Nari Ultimate for Xbox One
\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n

We got our first look at the Nari Ultimate. It's an Xbox One-specific evolution of the Nari headset already available on PC. Built from metal and featuring a new self-adjusting headband coated in a special gel where it touches your head, the Nari are definitely a sizeable headset. What makes them stand out is what Razer calls Hypersense Advanced Haptic Drivers. There aren't just two 50W drivers on the right and left, but also two actual motors that generate vibrations based on the bass in play. The resulting effect is truly unique. Hypersense is intelligent enough to apply different intensities based on the distance of the blast, according to Razer.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Along with Windows Sonic support, the Nari Ultimate offers multi-channel virtual sound with the addition of a vibration effect. In addition to the classic volume and power buttons, the device features a wheel to adjust the intensity of the physical feedback, as well as a wheel for managing in-game audio and voice chat. The main difference with Hypersense compared to the original Nari is that there is no management software. This is because it is not possible to install such software on Xbox One. But there is also a plus: since it is an official Xbox product, it connects wirelessly to the console, without having to use the controller's headphone jack. The Nari Ultimate will be available on September 26th for \u20ac219.99.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Viper<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Viper is a new mouse characterized, in our opinion, by two key features. The first is the actuation system for the left and right buttons, based on Razer's own optical switch system. Instead of using a mechanical system, which requires anti-bounce systems that add latency and potential inaccuracy, this new system uses light to register clicks. Traditionally, mechanical switches physically activate a contact point to register a click. This means that inside the mouse, to put it simply, there's a piece of metal touching another. Due to the physical properties of the actuation system, we never get a single impulse but rather several in sequence, due to the vibrations produced by the player's physical click. Razer, with its optical switch system, has completely eliminated physical contact. The movement of the button registers a single impulse because it interrupts an optical link: in short, it's like briefly breaking a laser beam (although that's not exactly the case with the Viper). The main result is that there's no bounce. Therefore, there's no need for debounce systems that potentially reduce response speed. This is an extremely interesting application that we'd really like to test in the editorial office. The new switches are also more durable: 70 million clicks compared to the 50 million Razer traditionally advertises. This is undoubtedly due to the reduced stress on the device's internal components, given that there's no physical contact.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The second noteworthy factor is its design and weight. If we wanted to be mischievous, we could say that Razer took some design cues from Logitech G, as the Viper has an extremely simplistic yet functional design, just like the G Pro Wireless. It also weighs very little: just 69 grams. Lightweight mice have definitely been a trend in recent years, and Razer seems determined to offer its own version of this peripheral category, and we're sure it will meet the needs of gamers, especially those dedicated to FPS games. The sensory component hasn't been overlooked either: the Viper will feature the same 5G sensor as the brand's latest mice. However, the DPI adjustment is different: Razer has placed the button to change this setting under the mouse, in an area that's not accessible on the fly but is not at risk of being pressed by mistake. An RGB LED will then indicate which of the five presets the user is currently in, with the option to change these presets via the Synapse software. Similarly, we can also change the function of the device's 8 programmable buttons. However, it won't be possible to save the remap to the Viper's memory; we'll have to rely on Synapse cloud synchronization. Finally, the device is obviously compatible with Chroma, Razer's RGB system, and has a new braided cable made of a fabric called Speedflex, which, according to Razer, guarantees greater flexibility and movement, making this mouse more similar to the experience of a wireless mouse than a wired one. In any case, we allow ourselves to be a little skeptical about this. The Viper will be available from August 2nd for \u20ac89.99 (unfortunately, we don't have information on pricing in Switzerland).<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Huntsman Tournament Edition<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The second product we saw from Razer is the new Huntsman Tournament Edition. A tenkeyless keyboard based on the design of\u2014you guessed it\u2014the Huntsman, released last year. The TE version has been improved following the feedback of esports teams that collaborate with Razer. The compact keyboard features the Chroma effect and matte-finished PBT keycaps. Underneath are Razer's linear optical switches, with 40 grams of actuation force, 1 mm of actuation distance, and 3.5 mm of travel per key. What's unique about Razer's switches is that, like the Viper, they aren't mechanical switches in the traditional sense.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Precisely for this reason, there's no bounce, but there's also no delay for the switch reset, since it doesn't have to return to its original position once pressed. The advantage should therefore be speed. The Huntsman TE has internal memory for saving up to five profiles, which can be created with Synapse. On the back, there's a USB Type-C port for connecting the keyboard to your PC using the included cable (which also has a locking system to prevent the cable from being accidentally torn), but any USB cable can also be used. The Huntsman TE will be released on September 12th for \u20ac149.99.<\/p>\n
