Film proposed to the public of the Piazza Grande, Hin un Weg<\/strong> it's a film by Christian Z\u00fcbert<\/strong> on the extremely sensitive topic of assisted suicide. But it manages to address this issue in a surprisingly light-hearted way, at least in part.<\/p>\n

A bike ride<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Hannes (Florian David Fitz) and his friends are a rather sporty bunch. They're not afraid of bike rides, and when Hannes suggests taking them from Germany to Belgium for their annual cycling holiday, no one is turned down. They're a very close-knit group of friends, people who, in their late twenties, have known each other for a long time. \"OC760680_P3001_184270\"One of their traditions is to challenge each other to do crazy things during their travels, challenges secretly assigned between one person and the other. It could be dressing up as a woman, obtaining drugs, or even participating in a gangbang! But the purpose of the trip isn't just for fun; on the contrary, it's the opposite. Unbeknownst to anyone except his wife, Kiki (Julia Koschitz), Hannes has made an appointment with a Belgian doctor to end his life. This isn't a self-destructive plan, but the result of long meditation. He is ill. A disease that will slowly lead to his loss of body and ultimately death. After experiencing the progression of his father's illness, Hannes decides this isn't the way he wants to end this earthly life. The journey thus begins in a carefree atmosphere, with witty banter and a truly lighthearted atmosphere. Hannes will have to spill the beans during the stop at his mother's house, leaving his friends naturally shocked. The one person who can't accept Hannes's difficult decision is his brother Finn, who is fiercely opposed to the plan. Accompanying his brother on what is effectively his final journey is simply too much for him. And yet, when it comes time to get back on the road, the entire group will be there. Despite the truth having been revealed, the days of travel continue with infectious lightheartedness. Of course, everyone is coming to terms with the terrible news in their own way, but at the same time, they are doing their best to make these last days as pleasant as possible. Finally, the group arrives in Belgium, after some decidedly ridiculous adventures and moments of intimate communion among the various members. Hannes, after a minor setback, will end his life, but not before saying goodbye to his friends, his mother, and his wife.<\/p>\n

A difficult exercise<\/strong><\/h2>\n

It's difficult to speak sensitively and lightly about a sensitive topic like assisted suicide. Yet Z\u00fcbert succeeds, offering a film that's both incredibly lighthearted and utterly serious. Lighthearted because the group of friends' experiences often border on the ridiculous, such as Michael's unforgettable evening dressed as a woman in a small-town German nightclub. Serious because the subject matter isn't the lightest in the world and is approached not polemically but simply with a sense of familiarity. A film that moves the viewer after making them laugh, almost a metaphor for the lighter times that unfortunately give way to darker times. All this is seasoned with the bucolic landscapes of Germany and Belgium and a truly well-crafted soundtrack.
